GRAND HANDOVER OF OUR GIVE BACK LEGACY PROJECT AMBIENCE ENTRANCE GATE, OVER 700 METERS FRONT PERIMETER FENCE AND THE SECURITY HOUSE TO OUR ALMA MATER

WELCOME SPEECH BY CLASS OF 1993 GRAND HANDOVER OF OUR GIVE BACK LEGACY PROJECT AMBIENCE ENTRANCE GATE, OVER 700 METERS FRONT PERIMETER FENCE AND THE SECURITY HOUSE TO OUR ALMA MATER. A very warm welcome to the Honourable Comrade Philip Shaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo State, Most Reverend Dr. Gabriel Dunia, Catholic Bishop of Auchi, Esteemed Special Guests, Royal Fathers, Dignitaries, Current and Former Teachers, Fellow Alumni, Ladies and Gentlemen. We also welcome and thank the Chairman for agreeing to Chair this event. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to address all of you on the auspicious occasion of the grand handover ceremony of my Class of 1993 Give Back Legacy project: AMBIENCE ENTRANCE GATE, OVER 700 METERS FRONT PERIMETER FENCE AND THE SECURITY HOUSE TO OUR ALMA MATER. Today is very important for us because it also gives us an opportunity to meet with many graduate students, former teachers, and other staff members almost 30 years after. We also get an opportunity to see the infrastructural changes and developments in the school. It is always a thrilling moment for alumni to come back to their school grounds and interact with new students. The Class of 1993 came together a little over a year ago to foster unity, provide desired assistance to members and give back to the school that nurtured our formative years. What we are celebrating today is the power of unity, resilience, friendship, and collaboration, which led to achieving this and many other accomplishments since our reunion. Once again, I am very happy to welcome you all. We have so many activities lined up today, so I request you enjoy this entertaining evening and leave with fond memories. God bless you all. I will now pass it on to the Chairman of this event. His Excellency the Deputy Governor Edo State, The Catholic Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia, HRHs, Distinguished Guests, Ladies, and gentlemen. Thank you all for honoring our invitation and sharing this special day with Class of 1993. The Class embarked on constructing a portion of the school perimeter fence firstly to secure the school land, and for the security of students and staff of the school. The idea of the Ambience Gate Entrance is to enhance the prestige and dignity of our Alma Mater and open it up to more possibilities. We consulted with relevant stakeholders on the priority needs of the school before embarking on this onerous but fulfilling initiative. The ground-breaking ceremony held on April 19, 2021, with representation from State Education Inspectorate. We aimed to hand over the project in seven months, being December 2021. Delivering this impressive work of our hands today is a testament to our zeal and tenacity. Fast forward four months later, our class was in ‘fundraising fatigue’ and had to resort to external funding appeal. Our first major endorsements early December was from Chief Dan Orbi, Chief Abu Inu Umoru and my dearest Husband Nnama, who I had to lean on technically and financially from the get-go. Mr. Innocent Anabor, Jane Blankson, Peter Ivaluogwe and I (members of Class Admin), constituted a kitchen cabinet that steadied the ship in faltering moments. Our ever-enthusiastic home girl Emily Aruokhai and Project Engineer/ Supervisor Benjamin Aliu, deserve mention. Today, we can proudly state that we have accomplished approximately 0.7 Kilometre (700 metres) of the front perimeter fencing, brought in ‘NEPA’ light with two high tension electric poles, threw in a few streetlights and even put our school on the World Wide Web! There is still a long way to go to fence the whole school, considering the large expanse of land therein. This is a clarion call to all invited guests, those watching via our live-stream service, Avianwu indigenes in diaspora and people of goodwill, to please give generously towards the fencing of the whole school land. As you are all pleasantly aware, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, built and donated an ICT Centre and fully equipped science laboratories to the school, that will be open for use by the school from today! This is a great news that is equally complimented by the imposing new Ambience Gate to herald the New Face of Ogbona Secondary School! We look forward to our great alma matter being made a boarding school and centre of academic excellence. Our school urgently needs government funding and support, including posting quality teachers and taking care of their remunerations. We dare to hope that one day we may be upgraded to a satellite campus and (why not?) a tertiary institution. After all we have the land and clime! Our Class lingo that fired us up in moments of despondency was YES, WE CAN. Today, to the glory of God we can all proudly shout YES, WE DID. May God bless and grant us journey mercies back home to our families. YES, WE DID IT!! PROVISION OF A BLOCK OF CLASSROOMS, COMPUTER LABORATORIES AND OFFICES IN OGBONA SECONDARY SCHOOL, OGBONA EDO STATE

PROVISION OF A BLOCK OF CLASSROOMS, COMPUTER LABORATORIES AND OFFICES IN OGBONA SECONDARY SCHOOL, OGBONA EDO STATE. Ogbona is a community located in Etsako Central local government area in the northern part of Edo state. Traditionally a rusty agrarian community, the leadership of Ogbona had long realized that importance of education for its children and further understood that the various secondary schools in neighbouring communities where her children currently study are not enough to fully cater for the needs of her wards. Thus, through ardent community efforts and uncommon sacrifice Ogbona Secondary was established in 1980. It became not just the darling secondary school of the Ogbona community, but several neighbouring communities began to send their children to Ogbona secondary school in their droves. In 1984, the then Bendel State government (now Edo state) took-over the management of the school from the community. From the take-over period till date, there was basically developmental efforts from the government to improve or add to the structural and academic facilities of the secondary school. Most of the classrooms, laboratories, offices were dilapidated and in dire need of attention. Due to the deplorable state of the school facilities, the Ogbona community sought the assistance of Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) to give the school an infrastructural facelift. In 2015, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, as part of their community work, heeded the clarion of Ogbona community and decided to construct a storey building in the school with the following components: 15 classrooms; 3 Science labs; an ICT Centre; a Reading Room; Principal and Vice Principal’s offices; Staff Common room; and 20 toilets. During the construction there were several changes in the business environment that led to revision in the project cost and timeline. The furnishing was separated from the construction, and it took almost 3 years to award the furnishing part of the project. The mobilization for the furnishing started early 2020 but was quickly disrupted by the Covid-19 and restrictions. Furnishing was completed late 2020 and early 2021 but the project could not be handed over to the community due to disruptions from the various waves of the Covid-19 and security. Other communities moved into their buildings without a handover ceremony, however, Ogbona Secondary school was waiting on a formal handover. Today ceremony marks the official moving into the new building and taking advantage of the opportunities it presents. We wish the students and the community the best of learning in this new facility that is about the best you can find in the whole of Edo state. The community is hereby appealing to the Edo State Government for a better staffing of the school to enable the proper utilization of the laboratories, ICT Centers, and other facilities. We thank you for your presence and attention. Ogbona Community Creates Traffic In Benin To Protest Against Fulani Herdsmen’s Mennace

Ogbona Community Creates Traffic In Benin To Protest Against Fulani Herdsmen’s Mennace. Francis Onoiribholo On Aug 30, 2021 The people of the Ogbona community in Etsako Central Local Government of Edo State on Monday created an unbearable traffic holdup in Benin city, the state capital that lasted several hours to stage a peaceful protest against what they described as “the menace of Fulani herdsmen” in their community. Ogbona which is the hometown of Chief Dan Orbih, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South-South national zonal vice-chairman demanded that the cattlemen should be compelled by the state government to leave their agrarian community without further delay. Carrying placards with different inscriptions such as “Ogbona People of Etsako Central LGA Protest Against Cattle Rearers Destroying Our Land”, “Ogbona People of Edo North are Farmers who survived by our farm products” “Government Come to Our Aid as Our Crops are Being Destroyed by Herdsmen” amongst others The protesters marched through some major streets of Benin city to register their anger. Chief Vincent Otso, spokesman for the community accused the Fulani herdsmen of wanton destruction of their farmlands and crops with their animals. According to Chief Otso, the cattle rearers have uprooted our cassava with which they feed their cattle while trampling on our other crops, including yam tubers which are not spared in the destruction by the herdsmen and their cattle. “We are now afraid to go to the farm because many of us have been beaten up and injured by herdsmen for daring to ask them to stop the destruction of our crops and farmlands. The community pleaded with the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and the security agents to come to their aid so that they can continue to go to their farms to avoid acute hunger the headers are trying to put on them. “So, we are here to let you know that we are tired of their atrocities. We can’t go to farm anymore and the little we cultivated have been destroyed by the herders and their cattle. We want them to leave our land and community. We didn’t give them any land.” He pointed out that the community decided to journey to Benin to express their frustration so that the government can act as they have reached the limit of their endurance and do not want to take the laws into their hands. [8:04 AM, 8/31/2021] Anthony Okhamera: I don’t understand this. You mean our community went to Benin to protest against the takeover of our farm lands by herders? Mr governor should come chase them away all the way from Benin? That will not work because that has not been proven as a viable solution anywhere. We must take the initiative ourselves and chase the intruders out of our community and we do not need to make noise over this. We have by our action, exposed our fright and the herders will take advantage of our fears. Fulanis don’t understand any other language that forceful revenge. When coerced , they will exhibit astonishing fright. [8:11 AM, 8/31/2021] Phillip Orbih: You are right sir.. but I think the Okpe Ukpi in his wisdom wanted to also put it out there for the authorities to know. I personally think we have to resist them. Like what Fugar is doing and also invest in and Fortify our Local Vigilante to make them very effective. We can device means to wade them off without being confrontational. [8:12 AM, 8/31/2021] Phillip Orbih: I also think we should also find away to bring their Collaborators is Experi and South Ibie to order. This is not something we should gloss over. [8:13 AM, 8/31/2021] Phillip Orbih: *in Ekperi [8:25 AM, 8/31/2021] Mike Itsuokor Kadiri: Cannot believe the Bororos are finally in our backyard. Like you said they are lawless and amorphous and border less. A quiet carrot and stick approach would be needed in dealing with them. A good network with our neighbouring communities to forge a common front is urgent in this case [8:31 AM, 8/31/2021] John Anaweokhai: Senior bros, it is not as easy as that. Our problem with the Fulanis is around the Ogbona -Ekperi-South Ibie axes.As a matter of fact, herdsmen are in that area at the behest of the clan heads of those two Kings.Of course , you understand the history of the animosity between Ogbona and Ekperi over that piece of land.As such, whatever can be done to frustrate Ogbona out of that area is readily welcome with joy by the head of Ekperi clan. Unfortunately, our Okphe Ukpi does not have any leverage over any of the two clan heads mentioned above. The Okphe Ukpi needs to appeal to a higher authority who has leverage over the clan heads of south Ibie and Ekperi and it is doubtful if anyone else is better positioned do play that role the the chief executive officer of the state. Will our efforts yield the desired result? [8:34 AM, 8/31/2021] John Anaweokhai: Let me be quick to add that herdsmen destroy our crops at night. The Okphe Ukpi has settled a lot cases involving killing of cows by our people that would have led to something else. [8:41 AM, 8/31/2021] Phillip Orbih: The truth of the matter is that we have to be proactive in dealing with this matter.Once they get comfortable they move to the next stage of kidnapping and Killings..God forbid. In as much as the Okpe Ukpi is doing what he can, we as a body has to come together and plan on our to deal with this problem. It is happening all over the country and we all know. [8:49 AM, 8/31/2021] John Anaweokhai: My brother, I doubt if there is alternative to diplomatic solution. The place in question is not our backyard. Its about 7 to 10 kilo away from home. How do you police that place? In case of eventuality , how do you send reinforcement? We need to be careful about the whole issue , or else, we play into the hands of our

RENOVATION AND UPGRADE OF OGBONA PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE (DISPENSARY)

The attached report marks our logical stop to our efforts for the Ogbona Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) renovation and upgrade, except we have more funding to expand our scope. (The PHC is directly opposite the Saint Johns Catholic church/Oboarekpe Primary School) Below are some of the areas we were able to touch. Floor tiles for the new and old buildings Painting of the old/new buildings Electrical/plumbing repairs – underground water tank, soak away etc. Hospital bed Hospital beddings: – mattresses, pillows, bedsheets, pillow cases etc. Repairing of the community generator nearby PHC and connecting the generator to the PHC buildings Repair of doors/keys and new doors Portioning of delivery room to surgery & delivery room Provision of signboard, gate to PHC etc. Provision of wheel chair, stretcher etc. Provision of office tables, chairs, benches, plastic chairs and misc. items Equipping the surgery/setup We are using this opportunity to thank all the donors for this project. May the good Lord bless you and your families. Those who were unable to support us this time, may the Lord provide for you and your family abundantly.   RENOVATION AND UPGRADE OF OGBONA PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE (DISPENSARY) Ogbona is one of the four villages that make up Avhianwu Clan and is a busy and rusty town founded about 1892 in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State. The town is one of the agro-based communities in Edo State, where yam, groundnut, maize, cassava and cashew nuts are farmed in commercial quantity. However, despite being one of the state’s food baskets, Ogbona is mostly known for constantly producing top-rate musicians in and around Edo. These musicians, known for their rich melody, philosophical composition, rhythms and emotional music, are yet to be matched in that area. The population of the community, based on school enrollment and past census is about 18,500 people. The community has 3 public primary schools, 6 private primary/secondary schools, one public secondary school.   RENOVATION & UPGRADE OF THE PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE (DISPENSARY/MATERNITY). The Ogbona Community Primary Health Centre, commonly referred to as Ogbona Maternity Hospital was approved alongside three others in March, 1959 and was commissioned in 1961 by the Local Council Authority when Chief M.C.K Orbih was the councilor representing Avianwu ward. The total cost of the project was One thousand Pounds (€1,000), which was twice the cost of that of Jagbe. The Primary Health Centre is currently in need of urgent repairs and possible upgrade. The structures which have been in place for many years and now in states of disrepair are in dire need of urgent repairs and re-furnishing. Currently, the PHC is the most readily available medical facility to the community.  After a thorough feasibility study was carried out by the community leadership, it was discovered that a little effort was required to repair and upgrade the facility in terms of infrastructure and basic clinical/surgical equipment. The renovation work was initiated by the Okphe Ukpi of Ogbona, Chief Willy Idode. He personally supervised the renovation work and upgrade in order to maximize the available resources. We appealed to individuals and corporate organizations to sponsor certain items on the list or sponsor part or the entire renovation/upgrade work.  We could do more if we have the fund. Although much progress has been made in the areas of repairs of the infrastructure, the facility requires to be minimally equiped with upgraded clinical/surgical items. To this end, it has been suggested that we set up a surgical theatre as the place is now conducive for carrying out basic surgical operations.  It is expected that a surgeon/surgeons will be coming around from time to time to carry out surgeries as soon is the facility becomes functional instead of going to Fugar or Auchi for such medical services. The need to see to the realization of the refurbishing and upgrading of the Ogbona PHC prompted The Ogbona Elites Forum (OEF) to shelve its 2021 Annual Free Medical Outreach, which has held twice since 2018 and collaborate with the community to refurbish and upgradee the Ogbona Primary Healthcare Centre (Dispensary/Maternity). As at this moment, much work has been done and more requires to be done. Dispensary/Maternity, as it is fondly called has received a new lease of life to the glory of God and to the gratification and benefit of Ogbona Community and its environ.     STATE OF THE HEALTHCARE CENTRE BEFORE RENOVATION ONGOING RENOVATION AT THE OGBONA PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRE ETSAKO CENTRAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN AND COUNCIL OFFICIALS ON INSPECTION OF THE RENOVATION WORK AT OGBONA PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE, MARCH 01, 2021. PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME To the glory of God and through the efforts of the good people of this forum, the Primary Healthcare Centre (Dispensary/Maternity) at home is receiving a new lease of life after decades of neglect. May the good Lord bless each and everyone of us, Amen. Having seen the community effort put in there, the HOS has approved that a surgery theatre be set up there to handle surgical operations. Honestly, we have tried without success to convince UBTH management in Benin to set up the theatre in their hospital at home to handle such cases. The number of our people who go to Jattu and Auchi all the time for minor operations is much. Having the theatre in the Healthcare Centre equipped to handle surgical operations would save our people money, mother & child at birth and the stress of going to Auchi all the time.   THE NEW SURGERY THEATRE List of items required to set up the theatre 1. Allis forcep x 4 2. Babcock forcep x 4 3. Ambo bag (Adult x 1, child x 1) 4. Set of dilators x1 5. Artery forcep – (straight and curve) a. Medium x 4 b. Mosquito x 4 c. large x 4 6. 2021 Aduikwu kwa Day : Ogbona Sub Clan Head Calls for Unity, Love, forgiveness Among Communities

2021 Aduikwu kwa Day : Ogbona Sub Clan Head Calls for Unity, Love, forgiveness Among Communities. March 13, 2021 By Elias Inaede, The need for unity, forgiveness and love among the various communities in Avhianwu has again be stressed. This was the submission of the Okpeukpi of Ogbona sub clan head, HRH Chief Willy Idode in his message to felicitate with his subjects on the ocassion of this year’s Aduikwu kwa festival in an interview with ELIAS INAEDE MEDIA GROUP on Saturday in his residence in Ogbona. He emphasized the need to forgive one another in order to receive the blessings of God and that no emni ty should exceed beyond Aduikwu kwa day. While wishing the people of Ogbona and Avhianwu Clan a peaceful Aduikwu kwa day festival, the traditional Ruler, maintained that, the only way the cultural heritage of Avhianwu can be preserved was to carry everyone along in the scheme of things and that those who are responsible in preserving the cultural heritage of Avhianwu should always give a sense of belonging to every community and not when decisions are already made that a message will be passed across. According him, that would guarantee peaceful co existence in Avhianwu. He urged all and sundry to unite and imbibe the spirit of forgiveness by engaging in acts that can bring unity and progress to the community rather than indulging in acts that separate Avhianwu as a community. Aduikwu kwa day is the traditional new year in Avhianwu clan.
